I was staying at home alone and felt bored. Very bored. It was my parent’s colleague birthday so they had to attend it. I was watching my favourite show "Amazing Race" when the lights flickered wildly and went off. My house had plunged into darkness! "There's a fire run...!' everyone shouted as they were panicking.
There was more and more muffled screams and gasped of horror filled the air. Meanwhile, I heard babies bowling and children wailing. Would I die? Should I escape? Chaos ensued. I was in danger as the fire was spreading.
I looked out of my door and I saw all of the residents were behaving in a frantic manner. Plumes of black smoke billowed out of the building. The blaze was spreading to the sixth floor as the voracious appetite of the fire went unchecked. Pandemonium broke out as the panic stricken residents ran helter-skelter in all direction to get out of the building. Suddenly, I felt that I had difficulty breathing.
"Help! Help....!" a familiar voice shouted at the top of his voice. IT was John who is my neighbour. He was in his house but there was no one at home.
Should I escape myself and be oblivious to my neighbours who was in danger? Should I risk my life?
Panic started to engulf me. My heart began to beat faster every second as frightening thoughts raced through my mind. Fortunately, a bus past-by as there was a traffic jam so the driver could not drive. Everyone ran out of the bus. Panic gripped them and they were trembling like a leaf. They took out their hand phone and called the SPDF officers.
I decided to escape first as tongues of flames had licked the walls. The flames were getting bigger and bigger and the fire was spreading and spreading. Tension and fear mounted. Would I survive?
Cold fear gripped John and he was too afraid to utter a word. After a few period of time, the
ambulance came followed by the police and the SPDF officers. The fireman came to the scene to
put out the fire. There were thick smoke and John was coughing ceaselessly. I quickly told them to save John who was living in the third floor.
Luckily, John had minor injuries but the people whisked him into the ambulance. The police cordoned off the area while the SPDF officers stayed behind to investigate the cause of the fire
and found some clues left behind carelessly. The police also took down some sentences from the
eye-witnesses.
I informed John's mother and she rushed to the hospital. "Mum..." he called out in a weak voice her mother was disappointed. So disappointed that she cried profusely. I apologised to John for not saving him and ran for my life.
It was a traumatic experience for John. The cause of the fire was actually caused by an adult who had forgotten to turn off the fire while boiling the water.
