“Ouch! It hurts!”Tim exclaimed. It was just a red ant bite but Tim kicked up a big fuss. We were at the Amazon rainforest with our bosom friends. We did not go to the rainforest before so we decided to go to the Amazon rainforest for a trekking trip.

I imagined dappled sunlight dotting the cool forest floor and melodic birdsong to keep me company as we walked unhurriedly along the tracks. We took some insect that is different from others and put it in a container as a specimen to find out more about it. We went deeper and deeper. The path was also getting smaller and smaller.

As we walk through the rainforest, there was only a little light. Soon, we were engulfed by huge trees and some of the sunlight blocked by the foliage faded into a muted gloom.

A man-made lake gleaming in the sun came to my sight. It was stretching before us like an emerald mirror. There was a motorboat left behind. I was frightened. Fear gripped my heart. My heart began to beat faster every second as frightening thoughts raced through my mind. Is there anyone there? Why would there be a boat?

“Hey guys! Why don’t we go over to get a closer view?” John said in a curious voice. “I think it... is…very...dangerous!” I muttered. Wild thoughts had once again raced through my mind. John went towards the boat. We followed him to ensure that he will be saved. We wanted to find out the different types of creatures along the lake or in it. A mixed feeling of anxiety and curiosity seized us.

John wanted to jump into the lake but we warned him not to as we cannot predict what creature would there be in the water. John turned a deaf ear and jumped into the water to explore the different types of sea animals. We were worried for him.

Out of a sudden, a green and scaly creature was swimming in the lake. Could it be a crocodile or something else? We were shivering in fear. Will John die? Fortunately, John came out of the lake but this could cause him to die. The crocodile saw John and swam towards him. We shouted at John to swim as fast as he could but it was too late.

Without hesitation, Ken jump into the lake as he wanted to sacrifice for John. Ken tried to defend John from being attacked. “Run away! Quick run! I will take care of the place!” Ken shouted. I did not want Ken to die. Tim turned his head away as he did not dare to see what happened. Luckily, John swam back to the shore in the nick of time. Ken was nowhere in sight! Blood had filled the whole lake. Ken may be eaten up by the crocodile.

Sorrow pierced through our heart. I was on the verge of tears as I tried to control them. But a few moments later, I could not control them anymore. Torrents of tears streamed down our cheeks and our body shook as we sobbed uncontrollably.

We escaped immediately to a safe place so incident like that would not be happened again. We thought of a way to go out of the rainforest. We started to collect branches to start a fire.

Fortunately, a helicopter passed by and saw the smoke. They saw us in the rainforest and rescued us. Finally, we could get out of that place! We were all very sad for Ken.

“What had happened was my entire fault. If not because of me, Ken would not die!” John said in a low voice. He regretted his actions and felt very sorry for Ken. He always remembered that Ken was his best friend and a person who is willing to sacrifice his life for others!
